Hyosung GT 250R
MUMBAI: South Korean superbike maker S&T Motors, which entered into a partnership with Pune-based DS Kulkarni Group to distribute its Hyosung bikes in the country, sees sales from India matching its overall global sales of 50,000 two-wheelers in the next 3-5 years.
Launching the Hyosung GT 250R at Rs 2.75 lakh (ex-showroom) in New Delhi on Monday, S&T Motors is currently finalising its India strategy with its partner DSK Group. To begin with, the plan is to bring in two more big bikes GV 250 and GV 650 later in the year which will be assembled locally and the company will aggressively localise its overall portfolio of 5-6 bikes with over 90% local content and bring the price down to almost half.
And within a span of 18 months, DSK Group will look at setting up a plant and bring in the mass market 125 cc and 150 cc motorcycles in India.
Justin Lee, global marketing team, S&T Motors said: "The potential to grow in India is very big. We are currently working on a product portfolio for the future. With strong commitment shown by our partner DSK Group, we see India turning out to be a huge base with potential volumes of 2,00,000 to 3,00,000 units annually."
This is the third attempt at an Indian stint for the South Korean major. They had earlier tied up with Kinetic Motors and Garware Group. Lee said, the company would continue to operate through a licensing agreement with DSK Group and has no plans to enter into equity participation.
