Jaguar F-Type Coupe unveiled

Jaguar, the ultra-luxury carmaker has showcased the all-new F-Type coupe at the currently happening Indian Auto Expo'14. The beast is certainly dynamically capable and performance oriented sports car that the company has ever developed. The sports car is available in three versions- F-Type R, F-Type S and F-Type, just like its Convertible sibling. But the all-new coupe is priced little higher than the Convertible counterpart.

At its heart, the performance-based F-Type R coupe gets a Jaguar's 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that is made to deliver massive 542.8bhp of max power. The sports car races from 0-100kmph in just 4 seconds, and attains a top speed of 290kmph (electronically limited). The other versions- F-type S Coupe and F-Type Coupe sports a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged petrol engines developing 374.8bhp and 335.8bhp of max power. The S Coupe takes 4.8 seconds to cross 0-100kmph and achieves top speed of 275kmph, while the base variant in the series sprints to 100kmph from rest in 5.1 seconds and has got a top speed of 260kmph. The engine comes combined with eight-speed close-ration quickshift transmission which is mechanized to deliver top-notch performance, alongwith full manual sequential control from cental sportshift or steering wheel mounted paddles.

The styling details are taken from the amazingly designed Jaguar C-X16 concept sports coupe, which is also unveiled at the current Expo. The whole of the structure is made with a single-piece aluminium pressing, which brings out a clean and attractively designed model eliminating joints from the body. The roof gets both options of aluminium or panoramic glass, while the rear spoiler sits at the tapered shut-line, slim, LED lamps are beautifully merged into the overall tailgate structure.

Apart from this, all-new F-Type R Coupe features innovative technologies comprising of second generation electronic active differential and torque vectoring for braking.

Jaguar Land Rover India achieves 32% growth in sales

Jaguar Land Rover India (JLR) have released their sales figures for the year 2012 and confirmed 32% growth compared to 2011 selling a total of 2393 cars in 2012 against 1813 in 2011.

Commenting on Jaguar Land Rover India’s sales performance, Mr Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover India said:


“Despite difficult economic circumstances and a general slowdown in the Indian car market, we have continued to grow our sales due to appealing and exciting products that distinguish us from other luxury car manufacturers. The coming year will see the introduction of further new and refreshed products and we are confident of increasing our share of the Indian luxury car market.”


2012 has seen the launch of the Range Rover brand and JLR stated that 2013 would see a spate of launches that includes added lineups from the Land Rover stable and the much anticipated Jaguar F-Type. The Jaguar XF and XJ series would also receive updates in the year’s course.

On a different note, won’t be incorrect to say that Tata was the best thing to happen to JLR.

Jaguar XK to move further upmarket

The next-generation Jaguar XK is set to grow in size following the introduction of the F-type. Design director Ian Callum said Jaguar was “going through a lot of discussion” about how the XK should evolve. No final decision has yet been taken, but Callum said there was an opportunity to “allow the car to become a bit more special than a GT”.

“It could grow into the luxury market, and grow in size,” he said. “Whether it stays the same as a two-plus-two or becomes a two-plus-more-than-two has not been committed to yet.”


The F-type’s launch removes the need for the XK to act as out-and-out sports coupé and luxury GT. With the F-type becoming Jaguar’s dedicated sports car, there’s scope for the XK to focus on its luxury GT credentials.

While a shift in strategy for the XK seems likely, the XJ is set to remain as a conventional saloon in its next generation, despite the declining market for such l

uxury four-doors.

Sales of large luxury SUVs are now dwarfing luxury saloons, but Callum believes it’s the state of the global economy rather than a shift in market trends that is to blame for dwindling luxury saloon sales. “I think the market will come back,” he said. “We’re strong in China and big cars are also always going to be popular in the US.”


Callum didn’t confirm the existence of a large Jaguar crossover to sit alongside the XJ in its line-up, but said the firm “had to take notice” of the growing popularity of crossovers and SUVs.

Jaguar launches XKR special edition at Rs 1.27 crore

NEW DELHI: Tata Motors-owned Jaguar today said it has launched the XKR special edition luxury sedan in India, priced at Rs 1.27 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).


"New XKR special edition models are available to order now in both coupe and convertible form from July 2012... The special edition models introduce enhancements to the XK's already luxurious hand-crafted cabin in addition to discreet exterior changes," the company said in a statement.


The car is powered by a 5.0 litre direct-injection V8 petrol engine, it added.

The company said the car is fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission that offers manual driver control via steering-wheel mounted paddles.
