Chevrolet to showcase New Compact SUV Concept at Auto Expo


American auto giant, Chevrolet, is all geared up to showcase a sub-four-metre compact SUV concept at the Auto Expo 2014 next month. The new SUV is expected to ride on General Motors’ global small vehicle platform, christened Gamma 2, which also underpins latest generation of small cars from General Motors.


 The new SUV will be pitted against the already established Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. Powering the new compact SUV will be the same 1.3-liter diesel engine, which powers the Chevrolet Sail twins and the Enjoy MUV. Along with the new Concept, Chevrolet will also be showcasing the Beat facelift at the Auto Expo. The facelifted Beat features new bumpers, new mirrors, and re-profiled head and tail-lights.


In addition to these, a Beat painted in Manchester United colors, Chevrolet Trailblazer seven seater SUV, the all-new Corvette C7 Stingray (showcased at the 2014 Detroit motor show) and the Chevrolet Camaro will also be on display at the Chevrolet stall at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014.

Chevrolet Cars to get Pricier by up to Rs. 10,000 from June 2013


 

General Motors India has announced that it will increase the prices of its entire range in India by up to Rs. 10,000 from the first week of June 2013. This step is the result of the increase in logistic costs due to the hike in diesel prices.


P Balnedran, vice president, General Motor India said, "We have decided to increase the prices of all our vehicles up to Rs.10,000 depending upon the model with effect from the 1st week of June on account of increase in transportation costs/logistics due to hike in diesel price. In percentage terms, the increase goes up to 1.5 per cent depending on the model".


"We are yet to finalise the exact amount, but it will be up to 1.5 per cent, which will be around Rs 10,000, depending upon different models and their variants," He added. General Motors has 8 products in India - Spark, Beat, Sail U-VA hatchback, Sail sedan, Enjoy MPV, Tavera, premium sedan Cruze and only sports utility vehicle Captiva.


The government of India has partially de-controlled the diesel prices from January this year, and since the oil marketing companies earn the liberty to increase the diesel prices by up to 50 paisa per litre every month, and it will continue for next few months till the entire losses are recovered. Few days back, the OMCs has raised the diesel prices by Rs. 1.02 lakh per litre, which is the fourth increase in rates since January 2013.

Chevrolet Sail sedan hits Indian market with a Rs. 4.99 lakhs launch price


General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL), a completely owned subsidiary of American multinational car maker General Motors, has introduced its Chevrolet Sail sedan in the domestic market on February 1, 2013. The price of the base model of Chevy Sail starts from Rs. 4.99 lakhs and the top-end trim comes with a price tag of Rs. 7.51 lakhs (all prices in the ex-showrooms of New Delhi). The company offers its petrol Chevy Sail within a price bracket of Rs. 4.99 to 6.41 lakhs, whereas diesel variants are available in the price range between Rs. 6.29 and 7.51 lakhs.


Commenting on the Chevrolet Sail launch in Indian auto market, Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India, was quoted as saying, “It is an important addition to General Motors' sedan line up in India. It competes in one of the fastest-growing segments.”


General Motors India has pitched its new Sail sedan against the likes of Maruti Suzuki DZire, Toyota Etios, Mahindra Verito, Ford Classic and the Tata Indigo eCS in the Indian auto market. The pricing of new Sail model devised by the American auto major is aggressive considering that current segment leader- Swift DZire is also offered to domestic audience with identical retail values.


Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of 2013 Chevrolet Sail, the stylish sedan is powered with a 1.2 litre SMARTECH petrol motor that produces a maximum output power of 85 bhp, along with peak torque of 113 Nm. Further, the Sail diesel comes fitted with a 1.3 litre SDE SMARTECH engine, which churns out maximum power and torque outputs of 77 bhp and 205 Nm, respectively.


The new Chevy Sail sedan comes trimmed with a number of safety features, such as central door locking, engine immobilizer, remote keyless entry and speed-sensitive automatic door locks. Further, three of the four Sail trims come fitted with airbags, while Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) system are offered in the top two variants.

Chevrolet Sail sedan is the New Year gift from GM India



  
The year 2012 is coming to a close and 2013 is being looked upon with anticipation as it heralds in a bevy of new vehicles to take their place in an already overflowing Indian auto market. The new Chevrolet Sail sedan is nearing its launch earlier than expected. Earlier today, in the last day of 2012, Chevrolet India website went live with their new page, which says that the Sail sedan is coming soon.


Chevrolet Sail sedan has been caught testing many time in the past few weeks. Recently it was caught on test on the streets of Ahmedabad in a highly camouflaged state and also on the Mumbai Pune Expressway. These images helped decipher a number of internal and external features to whet our appetites till the model finally makes it appearance which is scheduled for early 2013.


Chevrolet Sail sedan features a new enlarged grille. Is a longer vehicle with widening headlamps while wheelbase is larger than any other car in its segment. The vehicle looks appealing, giving the impression of enhanced space in its interiors. Chevrolet Sail is predicted to be in a price bracket of Rs.6.5 lakhs t0 Rs.7.0 lakhs as it makes its way into Indian markets with a 1.2 liter petrol engine and a 1.3 liter diesel option as well.
