Chevrolet Sail sedan hits Indian market with a Rs. 4.99 lakhs launch price

General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL), a completely owned subsidiary of American multinational car maker General Motors, has introduced its Chevrolet Sail sedan in the domestic market on February 1, 2013. The price of the base model of Chevy Sail starts from Rs. 4.99 lakhs and the top-end trim comes with a price tag of Rs. 7.51 lakhs (all prices in the ex-showrooms of New Delhi). The company offers its petrol Chevy Sail within a price bracket of Rs. 4.99 to 6.41 lakhs, whereas diesel variants are available in the price range between Rs. 6.29 and 7.51 lakhs.

Commenting on the Chevrolet Sail launch in Indian auto market, Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India, was quoted as saying, “It is an important addition to General Motors' sedan line up in India. It competes in one of the fastest-growing segments.”

General Motors India has pitched its new Sail sedan against the likes of Maruti Suzuki DZire, Toyota Etios, Mahindra Verito, Ford Classic and the Tata Indigo eCS in the Indian auto market. The pricing of new Sail model devised by the American auto major is aggressive considering that current segment leader- Swift DZire is also offered to domestic audience with identical retail values.

Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of 2013 Chevrolet Sail, the stylish sedan is powered with a 1.2 litre SMARTECH petrol motor that produces a maximum output power of 85 bhp, along with peak torque of 113 Nm. Further, the Sail diesel comes fitted with a 1.3 litre SDE SMARTECH engine, which churns out maximum power and torque outputs of 77 bhp and 205 Nm, respectively.

The new Chevy Sail sedan comes trimmed with a number of safety features, such as central door locking, engine immobilizer, remote keyless entry and speed-sensitive automatic door locks. Further, three of the four Sail trims come fitted with airbags, while Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) system are offered in the top two variants.
