Simmtronics has unveiled the XPad tablet series in Dubai today. The device is targeted at consumers who are looking for reasonably priced tablets that don't compromise on quality, convenience or functionality.
The Xpad 7-inch retails for just AED 299 ($81) and features a Cortex Arm 8 processor, multi-touch display and is WiFi enabled. Simmtronics says that this is its hottest selling tablet in the Asia-Pacific region, with a current order booking of half a million units.
Indrajit Sabharwal, chairman and MD of Simmtronics, said that the tablets manufactured by Simmtronics incorporate advanced features at lower costs. He also said that the company plans to launch a version exclusively for students in the Middle East, fitting their budget.
"By launching the XPad in the UAE, we believe in taking the tablet revolution to as many people as possible," Sabharwal said "The multi-touch XPad has already been acknowledged as a formidable companion - whether for businesspersons on the go or for gamers requiring quality graphics for their entertainment or for those seeking to enjoy high-quality entertainment."
The Xpad range comes in 7-inch, 8-inch, 9-inch, 9.7-inch and 10-inch versions, and boasts calling functionality and HD displays. All the tablets run on Android 4.0. The Xpad supports 3G connectivity, 1080p HD video playback, 1GHz CPU and packs 4GB of Nand flash memory for data storage. The storage can be expanded via micro-SD up to 32GB.
Arif Khan, director, Simmtronics Semiconductors Limited, said: "The XPad will certainly appeal to those require high-speed Internet while on the go. Through the USB Dongle feature, the XPad puts an end to connectivity limitations. This makes it not only the most robust Tablet PC but also the ultimate productivity tool."
At the press conference, Simmtronics also announced that the company had appointed Sharaf Electronics as the exclusive distributor of the XPad in the UAE. The product is already available at leading electronics stores across the region, including Lulu Hypermarket, PlugIns, Ansar Mall and Sharaf DG, among others.
Khan added "The entire GCC channel market will be handled by Sharaf Electronics. All power retailers and resellers will have the product available to them through Sharaf."
Speaking about Simmtronics' channel focus, Khan said: "We are coming up with a rebate scheme and besides giving discounts to retailers we will also supply them accessories like headphones, dongles and leather casings. Discounts will range between $6-$10 for the channel.
"The 10-inch tablet which will launch next month will be the hot seller in this region. That will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Pad, iPad, Acer and Toshiba. This month Sharaf Electronics has already placed an order of an assorted range of 10,000 units, For August and September, before GITEX we have already given them a target of 25,000 units a month which I'm sure they will achieve," concluded Khan.
