The Mobile High-definition Link (MHL) Consortium is looking to partner with Indian companies as it plans to accelerate the adoption of the MHL technology.
The consortium, promoted by Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Silicon Image, Sony, and Toshiba, is reaching out to content providers, game publishers, and local mobile device manufacturers such as Micromax, Lava etc., said Michael Bergen, senior partner alliance manager, MHL LLC.
In view of the rapid increase in the use of smartphones in the country, the consortium said the potential of growth for MHL in India could be enormous. "India is an important market for MHL technology as huge number of feature phone users are moving to smartphones."
MHL technology allows consumers to connect their MHL-enabled devices to the big screen to watch HD videos, play video games or work on business presentations. They can also control MHL-enabled mobile devices using the existing DTV remote.
The MHL Consortium now has more than 200 members supporting the MHL standard with over 30 crore unique products enabled with MHL technology.
Samsung's latest Galaxy S4 smartphone, including many others, boasts MHL technology.
Apart from smartphones and televisions, MHL sees future in the car infotainment and gaming consoles market. Bergen said the automotive sector is also embracing MHL technology with manufacturers such as Hyundai, JVC-Kenwood and Pioneer.
Bergen was on a visit to India to promote the awareness of MHL Connectivity standards.
