Homegrown handset manufacturer Lemon Mobiles is trying to catch up with the surging smartphone wave in the country. In order to get its chunk in the market, the company has rolled-out its smartphone line-up under Aspirational series, which includes the latest Full High Definition (FHD) smartphone--Aspire A4, priced at a competitive price of INR 17,999.
The new smartphone boast of features like Full HD Resolution, 5-inch FHD screen with 1080p display, 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 12.7 cm (5 inch) IPS display, 3G video calling capability, Android 4.2 (Jellybean) operating system, 13 MP Camera and 1GB RAM.
"It's exciting time for the smartphone industry in India. Everybody in the country is looking to upgrade their phones with smartphones. There is a huge demand in the market. Our aim for the next twelve months is to take our handset market share to around 5-10 percent where we are present and debuting in Metros like Delhi," says Sandeep Mushran, Co-Founder & Director, Lemon Mobile.
A4 is a dual SIM phone and will be available through company's retail channel and online shopping websites. Lemon claims to be the first domestic handset manufacturer to have launched full HD phone in the country.
HTC (Butterfly) and Samsung (Galaxy S4) are the other players who have launched their Full HD phones in the country. While HTC Butterfly costs at INR 33,575, Samsung Galaxy S4 is priced at INR 37990 in the country. Lemon is one of the late entrants in the smartphone business and established its presence in the year 2008.
Lemon says that it has already established its presence in 13 circles, majority of which are tier two and tier three cities."While we have our presence in tier 1 cities, the growth has largely come from cities like Hardoi and Faizabad. We have a strong presence in those circles. We understand that the competition is high in metros like Delhi and Mumbai and hence we are taking step by step approach to launch our presence in metros,".
Overall, the handset maker plans to sell around 5,00,000 units in the country in FY 2013-14, out of which 20 percent would be smartphones. The company also boasts of improve service capability and claims to have close to 300 service centres across India. It says that in order to encourage sales and service capability, it has devised a strategy to offer attractive incentives to local channel partners.
