FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) on Monday that Blackberry Messenger (BBM) is coming to Windows Phone.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop announced the news during Nokia's MWC press conference, revealing that following the app's debut on iOS and Android, BBM will soon be arriving on Windows Phone.
Elop said, "We've added some fantastic apps to the Windows Phone ecyosytem, including Vine and Instagram, and today we're pleased to announce that BBM will be coming to the operating system.
Elop also announced that Adobe Photoshop will soon be arriving on the operating system too, pledging that Nokia is consistently striving to improve the Windows Phone app ecosystem in order to compete with iOS and Android.
Nokia also announced on Monday that it is updating its Imaging SDK for developers, which is available to download from today.
Elop said, "Today we're updating the Nokia Imaging SDK to version 1.1, which brings developers new features like image editing, performance optimised filtering and re-framing."
Of course, Elop also did a fair bit of boasting during the press conference, and was keen to talk-up the fact that Windows Phone is 'the fastest growing mobile operating system', with Nokia accounting for around 90 percent of Windows Phone sales.
"We saw Windows Phone become the fastest growing operating system in the world - lead by the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 1020. In fact, the Nokia Lumia 520 is the fastest selling smartphone in the world in the €150-€200 price-tag bracket."
"More and more people are buying affordable smartphones, and that sub-€100 range is a massive opportunity for us."
In order to build on this success, Nokia also announced the Asha 230 budget smartphone, which will retail for around €50 when it goes on sale.
Nokia is also expected to announce its first Android smartphone, the Nokia X, during its press conference today, so keep your eye on The INQUIRER for all of the latest.
