An Android Community blog showed a leaked Vodafone screenshot indicating that the telecommunications company will be offering a gold-colored Samsung Galaxy S5 handset. Pointing to a photo obtained by GSM Arena, Vodafone's inventory list has an item listed as "Samsung Galaxy S5 Gold Contract Handset" together with its model number, which is evident that the gold-colored smartphone could only be obtained via a phone contract. GSM Arena credited a certain "Mr Rabbit" for the tip.
BGR said that the latest offering of Samsung's Galaxy series is set to appear ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress, which many speculated that the South Korean giant will debut at the trade show. The New York Times, however, confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will debut on Feb. 24 at the company's press conference. Press invites for this event had been sent out, with the number "5" present in the event title, BGR added.
The new smartphone of Samsung, according to SamMobile, will include a "Kids Mode" software feature to allow parent users to have control over the phone once in possession of their kids. Once the "Kids Mode" is activated, children can only access limited apps and contacts, including learning applications and Kids Store access for paid and free mobile games suitable for children.
"The Kids Mode interface is pretty colorful and flat (a direction all Samsung apps will take in the newest iteration of the company's software), and we can imagine it being a feature that will be welcomed by all the parents out there that are currently afraid of handing out their devices to their kids without supervision," Sam Mobile wrote.
The Samsung mobile fan blog had earlier said that the S5 will include features such as the fingerprint scanner and a dedicated camera button invisible to the naked eye.
