Users in India who are using Facebook Messenger app on android and iOS platforms can now make calls for free. Sounds great! right? Although, not officially announced by Facebook, but this new feature now allows to make voice calls to anyone on their friend list.
Facebook upgraded its Messenger app by adding a "free call" button in the app available for smartphones based on android and iOS platforms. This service was introduced in US and Canada, almost a year ago and is now available in India.
The Messenger application was launched in 2011 for Android and iOS platform and provides Instant Messaging service. Integrated with Facebook's web-based Chat feature and built on the open MQ Telemetry Transport protocol, Messenger lets Facebook users chat with friends both on mobile and on the main website.
What is interesting to see is, WhatsApp which was acquired by Facebook for $19 billion will also be launching free voice call option by mid-year. Quite a competition there!
