Vodafone launches international roaming package

New Delhi: Telecom major Vodafone India on Tuesday launched a new international roaming package under which its subscribers can avail up to 60 percent discount on voice, data and SMS charges across 40 countries.

Subscribers can get the package activated on a one-time rental fee of Rs 1,499 valid for 30 days, which will be charged in the customer's bill and there is no limit on the usage, Vodafone India said in a statement.

"The international roaming pack will make international roaming worry-free and affordable...This discount offer is applicable across 40 countries on specific partner networks across the globe," it added.

According to industry body COAI, Vodafone India added 1.20 million customers in May, taking its subscriber base to 152.49 million.

Vodafone charges between Rs 58-Rs 230 a minute (depending on the country) for calls to India or other countries, while SMS and data roaming charges are at Rs 5 (per message) and Rs 5.5 per 10 KB (for data) on international roaming.

With this pack, customers can roam internationally without having to pay multiple rentals, while visiting multiple countries, Vodafone India said adding that the package will be available till September 30, 2012.

"This latest offering addresses the latent needs of customers travelling to multiple countries with a single pack on one number and one-time rental, thus making international roaming a worry-free experience," Vodafone India Chief Commercial Officer Sanjoy Mukerji said.
