Sasmal new PGCIL operations director

The government has filled up the position of director- operations at state-owned Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd (PGCIL) with the appointment of R.P. Sasmal on Wednesday with the grid failures possibly acting as a wake-up call. The department was under the charge of R.N. Nayak, who was earlier the director operations at the transmission utility and then became the chairman and managing director of the company in September 2011.

The load management functions of the country are overseen by PGCIL, with Power System Operations Corp. Ltd (Posoco) its subsidiary actually handling it.
