NEW DELHI: The Telecom Commission (TC), the highest policy-making body in the telecom department, is likely to finalise on Friday the guidelines under which new mobile permits will be issued, post-conclusion of 2G auctions next January.
The new licensing guidelines will be formalised after considering sector regulator Trai's recommendations of having a single licence for offering all communication services and delinking spectrum from licences.
However, proposals relating to the airwaves sale will be taken up on priority while those relating to migration of permits to the unified regime and other peripheral issues would be dealt with at a later stage, telecom secretary R Chandrasekhar said.
"We had discussed several issues relating to unified licensing and decided on a certain approach to finalise decisions. We've split them into three categories - those necessary for auction, those part of the unified licence regime that need analysis and harmonisation with National Telecom Policy 2012, and those relating to migration of licences. We will prioritise and focus on auction-related aspects that require immediate decision," said Chandrasekhar, who is also the TC chairman.
