Toyota India announces a recall of 1100 units of Corolla Altis

The well known Japanese car maker, Toyota has recalled the 1100 units of its diesel version of Corolla Altis sedan in the Indian auto market, owing to a faulty drive shaft. Its Indian division, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has said in an official statement that the company has initiated a recall plan in May 2013 for its flagship model. It said, “The campaign is for Corolla Altis Diesel manufactured between August 3, 2012, and February 14, 2013.”

When asked, one of the company officials said that this recall is expected to cover around 1,100 units of the Corolla Diesel, which have been offered to the Indian buyers. The company further said, “A potential aberration on the left or right side of the drive shaft has been observed in a few cases. We have decided to proactively inspect and repair/replace the drive shafts.”

According to sources, the trained engineers of TKM will take just two hours to fix the glitch. It must be noted that during the fourth week of May, the indigenous auto maker Nissan Motor announced a recall of 22,188 units of its Micra hatchback and Sunny sedan in the Indian market, owing to a fault in braking system. Reportedly, this recall was a part of the company's global exercise to solve the problem. Nissan Motor has recalled those vehicles, which were manufactured from June 2012 to March 2013.

it must be noted that earlier in April 2013, Toyota recalled a selective lot of its Corolla premium sedan, which was offered to Indian buyers as a part of its worldwide recall plan of 17.3 lakh units to repair the faulty airbags. This recall was applicable for those Corolla models, which were produced between January 2003 and June 2003 in the country. During 2011, the auto maker called back 41,000 units of its Etios sedan and Liva hatchback from the Indian market, in order to replace a faulty inlet pipe, which was linked to the fuel tank.
