Fujifilm has announced the launch of its latest X-series camera – the X-E2 – featuring the APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor, in India today. An upgrade to the the Fujifilm X-E1, the X-E2 was announced globally in October last year and will be available in India in the solid black and two-tone black and silver body. The X-E2 will be priced at Rs 76,999 for the body only and Rs 1,09,999 along with the XF 18-55mm kit lens.
The X-E2 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and features a 16.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor with an autofocus time claimed to be at 0.08 seconds. The camera’s sensor uses an original colour filter array with a randomised pixel generator that removes the need for an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) that degrades resolution. It is the same sensor that is also seen in the Fujifilm X100S.
It also has the first Lens Modulation Optimiser (LMO) for ILCs, which basically uses Fujifilm’s knowledge of each lens’ characteristic to adjust the in-camera processing and sharpening to compensate for diffraction and lens aberrations. The whole idea is to produce sharper JPEG images when shooting at largest or smallest aperture.
In terms of handling the Fujifilm X-E2 uses a combination of manually adjusted aperture ring as well as a shutter speed dial on the top of the camera. The exposure compensation goes from +/- 3EV and you can customise up to four buttons to your preferred functions. The X-E2 comes with a 2.36-million dot OLED viewfinder and has a 3-inch 1.04-million dot LCD screen. The camera has a startup time of 0.5 seconds and a minimal shutter lag of 0.05 seconds and high-speed continuous shooting of 7.0fps.
The camera will also feature the Digital Split Image technology that makes manual focus better and will have the ability to shoot 60fps 1080p videos. Focus Peaking Highlight, the highlighting of the outline in high contrast areas of the subject during focusing, further assists the user achieve critically sharp shots. Obviously, the camera comes with built-in Wi-Fi that lets you transfer images. Users can also download the Fujifilm Camera App for iOS and Android to transfer up to 30 pictures at a time.
At the price point of Rs 1,09,990 with the kit lens, the Fujifilm X-E2 looks positioned clearly at enthusiasts and professionals.
