Samsung has finally unveiled its all-new and flagship Galaxy S5. While reams have already been written about its specs, performance and so on, the 16GB version of the phone could give users a reason to worry. After some digging by Android Central, it has been revealed that the 16GB Samsung Galaxy S5 model comes with only half of the advertised storage capacity.
If you take a look at the above image, you can clearly see the available storage capacity is 7.86 GB after the new TouchWiz and other Samsung software consume nearly 7.7GB of space. On the other hand, an all new and unused 16GB Nexus 5 reportedly offers about 12.16GB of available space. The S5′s predecessor the Galaxy S4 had system folder that consumed over 2GB of space, while the S3 clocked in at around 1.1GB. The lowest is the Nexus 4, which has a 495MB heavy system folder. The problem isn’t that significant in the 32GB model, though even there a significant chunk of the phone is devoted to Samsung’s ‘untouchable’ software.
While you have reasons to complain, it should be noted that the Samsung device does support expandable microSD card slot. However, if you plan to own a Galaxy S5 when it hits markets starting April, it would be wiser to opt for a 32GB model, or buy a large capacity memory card; they even in come in 128GB versions these days. What with the 4K video recording, HD movie playback and 16MP images from the camera, that internal memory is going to fill up fast. Or you could simply use the first available root method and free up more space on your S5.
